There are several grounds which are considered while filing the petition for the divorce in USA. The two grounds which are considered for filing a divorce are No Fault and Fault divorce. Non Retrievable Marriage Breakdown: when the partners find that their marital relationship is beyond there control and can not be reconciled, they can decide to get separated.

Incompatibility In The Partners: A divorce application can be filed based on the ground of incompatibility.

Voluntary Abandonment: When the partners in a marital relationship decides not to be in the physical relationship any more then they can mutually apply for a Voluntary abandonment. In this scenario, the partners have to live separately for a year and then the court will grant separation to the partners.
