Their usage has increased and their utility has increased too. From being just a thing for providing light and ventilation they have become a form of art. People have started doing paintings on the slats of the blinds and when the slats are opened they provide some beautiful picture. In the beginning there were only horizontal blinds and then vertical blinds came into existence. These vertical blinds had slats which were wider than the slats in a horizontal blind. These slats are attached to a string and would rotate about an axis. When the string is being pulled these vertical slats would turn around to provide light and air to the room.

All the vertical slats would rotate almost at the same time and this provides for a beautiful sight. These vertical blinds are more resistant to strong winds than to horizontal blinds. The vertical blinds also provide good protection from bad climate and they also prevent insects from entering into the house. The material in which the blinds are created too has undergone a sea change. In the early days blinds were available only in wood but now they are available in metal and even in PVC.
